Metadichol as Mediator of Inflammatory Response

Note to readers: This article is to notify researchers to the possibilities of Metadichol as a mediator of the AHR-Nrf2 pathway for inflammatory response. Metadichol’s action on nuclear receptors is hugely significant. The importance of Metadichol’s effect is in regulating inflammatory response to outside agents. Outside agents may include drugs, manmade toxins, or even response to light (think sunburn and/or retinal protection). In this paper, it is shown how Metadichol may be significant in treating chemo resistant cancer.

Abstract
Metadichol ® a novel nano-emulsion of lipid alcohols is an Inverse agonist of Vitamin D Receptor (VDR). In this communication, we show that Metadichol is an inverse agonist of the nuclear receptor AHR (Aryl Hydrocarbon receptor) and an inhibitor of NRF2 (Nuclear factor (erythroid-derived 2)-like 2)) and is a transcription factor that is ubiquitously expressed at low levels in all human organs and regulates a primary cellular defense mechanism, tight regulation to maintain cellular homeostasis. AHR is highly expressed in a broad panel of tumors, AHR is induced by 2,3,7,8-tetrachloride-benzo-p-dioxin (TCDD) Metadichol® as a inverse agonist against AHR could be potentially useful in the treatment of such diseases. Strong in vivo evidence suggests that TCDD can stimulate cross-talk between AHR and Nrf2. The constitutive up regulation of Nrf2 signaling appears to drive the cellular proliferation and resistance to chemotherapy in various cancers. Therefore, pharmacological inhibition of Nrf2 by Metadichol ® holds promise as a therapeutic strategy in chemo resistant forms of cancer.

Metadichol® Induces High Levels of Vitamin C

Vitamin C, also known as ascorbic acid, has shown a remarkable ability to reduce disease. Benefits include the prevention and treatment of scurvy, common cold, boost the immune system, lower hypertension, treatment of lead toxicity, cataracts, treatment of cancer, stroke, elasticity of skin, wound healing, and asthma. Metadichol® has shown it can help maintain high levels of plasma vitamin C without oral supplementation of vitamin C. Metadichol® is a nanoemulsion of policosanol or the waxy substance that is found in high concentration on the sunny parts of plants.

Post LabelLinus Pauling, a two-time Nobel Prize winner, spent a significant effort in promoting vitamin C in the prevention and treatment of disease.  He was scoffed at by the mainstream medical community. Now, there appears to be better acceptance of using vitamin C to treat disease. It is interesting to note that humans, unlike other mammals, do not make vitamin C. Goats are known to make large amounts of vitamin C each day.  A one hundred fifty-pound goat can make as much as 13,000 mg each day. I typically take one to two grams of vitamin C per day.  If my noise is running, I have found that it will stop in a few hours by taking a gram of vitamin C per hour.   

Typical reference range for plasma vitamin C is 0.2 – 2 mg/dL or 11 – 114 µmol/L.  In the study, Dr. Raghavan found that oral supplementation of 5 mg of Metadichol per day raised the plasma vitamin C to or above high normal.  Speculation has been that Metadichol accomplishes this by reducing the requirement for vitamin C as the body gets healthier, recycles vitamin C, or turns on the gene responsible for producing vitamin C.  In any case, this case study shows the effectiveness of Metadichol in reducing disease.

Abstract
We recently reported that Metadichol® [1] brings about a three to four-fold increase in Vitamin C levels in patients without the use of Vitamin C supplementation. In this study of 6 patients who experienced a 5-12 fold increase in plasma Vitamin C levels higher than 80-100 u mol/L level which is the highest reported to date by oral supplementation at high doses of Vitamin C. Metadichol improved in these patients TSH levels, normalized High Blood pressure, fasting glucose levels, reduced eosinophil count, high triglycerides, body fat reduction and increased bone mass, normalized sodium levels, reducing high insulin levels, increased creatinine output in urine and also reducing of Red Cell Distribution width %. Metadichol thus serves as a surrogate for Vitamin C at doses of 5 mg per day as opposed to mega doses that are currently used.

Our diets over the last fifty years have been shifted away from fat and toward carbohydrates with the belief that higher amounts of fat were causing cardiovascular disease (CVD). Raghavan has given us Metadichol, a nano-policosanol, to reduce blood pressure.  Policosanol, as long chain fatty acids, is found in high concentration on sugar cane and the husk of seeds.  Here is the paper that was just published for a sixty-week open label study. The remarkable things are that blood pressure is reduced in only three weeks, the production of vitamin C in humans, and reduced CRP, an indication of reduced inflammation.

To combat high-blood pressure the normal course is to:

  • Eat a healthy diet
  • Regular exercise
  • No nicotine use as it shrinks arteries
  • Limit alcohol
  • Maintain a healthy weight

The above is the typical verbiage that you get from your doctor. I wonder just how many times the physicians say that on any given day. It is apparent that a healthy lifestyle is everything. Of course, government and its agencies have failed us in defining a healthy diet. The common American diet was defined to promote the economy. If you don’t believe this then ask yourself this question: Why do we spend almost twice as much on healthcare as we do on food?

Poor eating habits are the cause of many chronic diseases.  Hypertension falls in this category. The first time my realization that diet was critical to controlling blood pressure occurred when I was reading “Protein Power” by Drs. Michael and Mary Eades.  They warned of blood pressure dropping significantly with the reduction of carbohydrates. This raises the question of our health actions over the last fifty years. Reduce the amount of fat and increase sugar?  Sugar has typically not been considered as dangerous, however, I believe it’s the worst policy we could have made. Linus Pauling (interesting that this is the vitamin C guy and Metadichol helps the body produce vitamin C) showed in the 1970s that sugar was more responsible for increased cholesterol than fat through his studies with prisoners.

  • The real solution to maintain a normal blood pressure is to eliminate sugar and flour from your diet. Grains were not meant to be finely divided for consumption by our physiology.  Sugar is not meant to be consumed outside of its normal occurrence in vegetables and fruits. This is what is meant when we are told to consume a healthy diet.

Metadichol will help maintain a lower blood pressure. Metadichol acts in many ways in controlling our biological actions. The beauty of Metadichol is that this food substance has no known side effects. We no longer consume policosanol that is found in the husk of seeds. It appears that our body needs these long chain fatty alcohols. Metadichol is taking the husk into a modern factory and chewing them for us. Remember the words of your mother: Chew your food!  Of course, if you don’t have the right part of the food to be chewed, factory chewing by others is okay.

The irony is that nature gave us policosanol on the plants that are high in sugar, and we throw way nature’s protection from sugar.  We then concentrate the sugar through modern processes and consume it in great amounts.  Results are devastating to our health. We now develop a substance that counteracts the effects of sugar, that nature originally meant us to consumed with the plant.  Sugar drives up serum cholesterol more so than fat. The result of a high sugar diet without the protection of policosanol is CVD and stroke. More irony, the original intent of the Dr. Raghavan was to improve the way policosanol reduced cholesterol as shown by the Cubans. Nature is laughing at us.

One of the very interesting findings in this study was the increase in vitamin C. The paper indicates that humans made vitamin C as part of our physiology.  At some point, one of the three enzymes that makes vitamin C from sugar was no longer produced.  Metadichol appears to turn on the gene responsible for producing this enzyme and higher vitamin C levels happen. This means reduced inflammation, as indicated by a reduction in CRP, and the possibility of a longer lifespan with less disease.

This is really-exciting stuff. The possibility of increased life span with reduced inflammation and disease through a food substance that can easily be supplemented with no side effects–Metadichol.

We took the chewing of grains into the milling operations to help foods be easier to consume. Sugar was concentrated through industrial processes as our body craves this substance. It should also be noted that sugar was concentrated to help in the production of alcohol–another craved substance. Both things, milled grains and concentrated sugar, made food easier to consume and have significant impact on our economy, but they are not healthy. Rheumatoid Arthritis and Osteoporosis–Vitamin D Pathways

Arthritis is an autoimmune disease that causes inflammation of the joints.   There are many types of arthritis, but they all seem to come from vitamin D deficiency.  Vitamin D deficiency results in many types of autoimmune diseases. At Vitamin D Deficiency Survivor, we have always encouraged you to be sure that your vitamin D levels are in the high normal range when trying to relieve these very serious diseases.  In this article, we present a case study of a patient with rheumatoid arthritis and osteoporosis that was treated with Metadichol.

It is very interesting to note in this article that the patient improved in many markers for health.  C-reactive protein (CRP) is a very important marker and signals an inflammation effect for many pathways of health.   In this study, the patient had a CRP of 1.1 that rose three years later, at baseline before treatment, to 83.  After sixteen weeks of treatment, the patient returned to his normal level—see figure 4.6.  This means that inflammation from all sources was reduced.

The treatment used in this study was Metadichol.  Metadichol is a nanoemulsion of naturally occurring policosanol. The nanoemulsion of policosanol is more easily absorbed and fines its way into the cells where it acts along vitamin D pathways, and the proper expression of many disease related genes (over 700 genes). 

I had arthritis in my pointing finger on my left hand for many years.  With high levels of vitamin D and other vitamins and minerals, it had still not returned to normal.  In three months with treatment of Metadichol, it returned to its normal size and there was no more pain.  Prior, it had been twenty-five percent larger than my right-hand finger.  My sister had significant pain in her knee that she had been told was from arthritis. She described it as very painful.  After treatment with Metadichol for three days, she reported that the pain was reduced by fifty percent.  I know that she was supplementing with a significant amount of vitamin D3. 

The author is very excited about the increase in bone mass density (BMD). This is nothing new to those that understands how vitamin D and minerals work to increase bone mass. Here is a post that I did in 2010 showing that an adequate amount of vitamin D increases bone mass.  The post is about a warning from the FDA for bisphosphonate drugs.  Here is also a link to the paper showing a 23% increase in BMD with vitamin D3 in a nursing home. 

Vitamins and minerals and other nutrients do not work in isolation for health.  It is an adequate amount of all nutrients that is important for health.  We have lost a significant intake of policosanol from processed foods.  Policosanol occurs in the sunny parts of plants, and it occurs at high levels on the husk of seeds and grains.   Think how we have lost access to this vital nutrient by not chewing the husk off foods.  Dr. Raghavan has presented us a solution to this modern problem of processed foods.

Metadichol—Use for Metabolic Disease

Sym DiabeticMetadichol was reported last year as being effective for Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes in case studies.  Two issues for diabetes are insulin resistance and obesity.  A target that is now being researched for metabolic disease is GPR-120.  In research by others, GPR-120 agonist has been found effective in anti-inflammatory, insulin sensitization, and anti-obesity effects.  Metadichol has been found as a GPR-120 agonist.

The paper, Metadichol® A Novel Nano Lipid; GPR-120 Agonist, reaches the conclusion that: “Metadichol has the potential to serve in mitigating diabetes with a broad spectrum of activity and with a safety that with [of]no toxicity at doses of up to 5000 mg/kg [20-22]. Metadichol is a far [more] effective substitute to prescription drugs, which have been largely ineffective in diabetes and have many side effects that add to health care costs.”

Metadichol as a MRSA Treatment—Case Study

Antibiotic resistant superbugs have been associated with an excess of adverse health conditions. MRSA, a drug-resistant bacterium, is associated with skin disorders such as abscesses and wound infections. The bacteria are also linked to the onset of pneumonia and can ultimately result in sepsis (bloodstream infections).  MRSA infections account for 18,650 deaths in the U.S. in 2005 (Over 80,000 invasive MRSA infections and 11,285 related deaths per year in 2011).

Abstract
Metadichol® is a nanoemulsion of long-chain alcohols called as Policosanol and is present in foods such as rice, sugar cane, wheat, and peanuts. Metadichol® acts on Nuclear Vitamin D receptors (VDR) that have a ubiquitous presence in cells and tissues of the body to stimulate the immune system and inhibit a variety of disease processes, resulting from viral, bacterial and parasitic infections. Infectious agents can cause disease by avoiding normal host defense mechanisms or by subverting them to promote their replication. They do so by blocking VDR receptor that is responsible for innate immunity, and this suppression of the immune response leads to persistent infections.

We present a case study of a patient who had acquired MRSA infections and how Metadichol® by its actions on the VDR has resolved the problem of this deadly disease without any side effects.

MRSA is a very serious infection that is very difficult to treat.  I had a community acquired infection that started in February of 2009.  After many rounds of doxycycline, here is photo in the infected area in June (The infection is over an inch across). MRSA Photo 2 The infection persisted until I was on doxycycline for a continuous period from August through October (I don’t even want to think about what that did to my microbiome.).  The infection was very painful.  Unfortunately, there was no other treatment available at the time.   I had the infection for nine months and I was lucky that it did not enter my bloodstream.  I was fully replete in serum vitamin D with a level of over 80 ng/ml, 25(OH)D.  The action of the bacteria blocking the VDR is apparent.  If my level of vitamin D had not been high normal, I would hate to think of the outcome as sepsis was a real possibility.

Thank you Dr. Raghavan for developing this unique nanoemulsion that is basically a food substance in a form that is easily absorbed.  MRSA cases in the US are on decline as hospitals and gyms are more caring about sanitized surfaces that prevent spread of the infection.  In 2009, it was not unusual to see gym members walk away without wiping down equipment.  With new awareness of MRSA, all members at my gym wipe down the equipment before and after use.  Please be aware of areas of possible exposure, especially gyms and hospitals.    –Pandemic Survivor

Improved Longevity with Metadichol

Scientist at ETH Zurich and the Jena Hospital in Germany completed a study of over 40,000 genes and identified 30 that allowed for extended life span in worms, fish, and mice. Many of the genes extended life span by around 5%, but there was one gene that extended life by up to 25%: BCAT1.  Here’s the story.  It has long been a quest for humankind to extend life.  Here is a story of the Ponce de Leon’s of our era. There are several compounds that have been identified that impact the BACT1 gene.  A study is ongoing for the popular diabetes drug, Metformin, to extend life. To clarify, the BACT1 gene is responsible for catabolism of branched chain amino acids (BCAA).

It seems that the truth of extending life lies in the idea of having the least number of illnesses during your life.  I wrote an article about this some six years prior:  Filling Good, Looking Better.  In my reading, I think I came across this idea from Linus Pauling during the 70s in his book, “How to Live Longer and Feel Better.” Ideally, it is not just about extending life, the best solution is to have a healthy, vibrant life. Pauling promoted many ideas about how to be healthy (and by-the-way won two Nobel Prizes).  His largest push that he is remembered for is vitamin C.  His promotion of vitamin C has now been supported by modern research. However, he also promoted healthy eating and the reduction of sugar consumption, now a very modern idea.  He even did a study on prisoners to show that it was sugar and not fat that drove up cholesterol.  Long life by reducing disease appears to be the case for BCAAs as they impact your health on many levels.

The idea of extending life by reducing disease gets exciting when considering Metadichol. It appears to reduce disease on many different levels that just happen to include the metabolism of BCAA. Here are the many articles that I have written about Metadichol.  The beauty of Metadichol is that it is a food substance and not a drug and has no known side effects.

The idea is not to just extend your life span, it is to have a happy, healthy, and vibrant life.  To accomplish this: It is about understanding your emotions and living in flow; it is about eating a healthy diet that eliminates flour, sugar, and other processed foods; it is about getting adequate amounts of vitamins and minerals that are much higher than the RDAs of our government; it is about eliminating environmental toxins like nicotine, mercury, and the salt substitute MSG; and it is about eliminating the side effects from prescription drugs (In other words, stay healthy and don’t take prescription drugs).  To your healthy life that will allow you to live to 120 years old. –Pandemic Survivor 

Diabetes Solution – Metadichol

Sym DiabeticA novel approach to solving the issues of diabetes shows Metadichol to be a winner.  Dr. PR Raghavan had originally published a paper for a case study for type 1 diabetes, Case Report of Type 1 Diabetes. Journal of the Science of Healing Outcomes: 2010; Vol 2(8/9):24. After five years and ending treatment the patient is still producing insulin.

  He is now to publish in the Science of Healing Outcomes in July a case report for type 2 diabetes.  Metadichol and Type 2 Diabetes Case Report (Metadichol Type2 Diabetes). From the introduction: “Globally, it is estimated that 366 million people had diabetes in 2011 (5). The number of people with type 2 diabetes is rapidly increasing in every country and in some low to middle income countries, up to 80% of people have diabetes.”  This disease ravishes the body and ultimately causes death from organ failure.  It is a disease of poor eating habits: “Type 2 diabetes is a metabolic disease that can be prevented through lifestyle modification, diet control, and control of overweight and obesity. Education of the populace is still the key to control this emerging epidemic.”

Figure 8The results from the case study are amazing as the person was on no other meds, having chosen to use only Metadichol.  The figure 8 graph from the study shows a clear reduction in glucose as tested during various times throughout the day. The patient’s HbA1C was reduced from 9.8 at baseline to 6.2 at day 84.

Is Metadichol going to work for diabetics?  This is yet to be determined. This study of one person may have had significant changes in glucose because the person changed their eating and exercise habits.  Eating habits are not reported and do have a significant impact on type 2 diabetes.  However, the case study that was first reported for type 1 warrants a significant clinical trial to determine the efficacy for Metadichol for treating diabetes. Since policosanol (the primary component of Metadichol) is a food substance, this trial could be safely carried out on large populations with people that are willing to log their eating habits during the trial.

As reported in other articles on Metadichol, Dr. Raghavan believes that the effectiveness is from how nano-policosanol acts on the vitamin D receptor (VDR).  It appears to act as both an agonist and an inverse agonist which is very unusual.  In addition, Metadichol acts on many genes and other nuclear receptors as reported by Dr. Raghavan.  Will the medical community embrace a food substance for treating disease—all, yet to be determined?  – Pandemic Survivor

Extend Your Dog’s Life

sophieOur dog ages and we know the inevitable outcome. It is a trip to the vet and a long sad time after the dog has passed. However, it may be possible to extend the life of your dog. Our dog Sophie, 13, had a really tough time in the spring of 2014. It began with a urinary tract infection and resulting liver and kidney issues. After increasing the amount of vitamin D, sulfate as MSM, NAC, and changing the type of food she recovered. However, she was not the playful dog that we had known. In late November, we begin to supplement her diet with two sprays of Metadichol on her food. She has now returned to her old self and has become very playful. Also, as I have described in an earlier post, her lipomas are shrinking.

 One Dog’s Surprising Turnaround

My wife and I adopted our son’s dog named “Miles” about 6 months ago in January 2012, as our son was moving into an apartment that had a dog restriction. Miles is about 9 years old, and is a beagle and corgi mixed breed, 30 lbs., and a very mild mannered, non-aggressive and loving dog. His tests for Lyme disease have been negative. We treat our dogs as family members, and want to make sure that they have a safe and comfortable life in our household.

Miles had what appeared to be arthritis in one of his hind legs, and would get around by hobbling on his other three legs about 75% of the time, but the condition appeared to be worsening. His other hind leg was also giving him problems. He did not run. Upon taking him in, we thought his health would steadily go downhill to the point where he would need to be euthanized. We were expecting to have to proceed with that unpleasant event within a year.

I started giving Miles two small doses per week of Metadichol about two months ago. The doses were about one-fourth of a teaspoon of your liquid formulation, mixed in his normal food. There was no hesitation on his part to eat the dosed food, thereby suggesting that he was not able to detect any adverse odor or flavor.

Almost immediately, Miles’ activity level picked up. Where five months ago he would not be able to take a walk on a leash outside, he now actively is walking, running, and jumping. He now greets me by standing up on his back legs! He looks forward to daily walks.

I was told by his vet at a recent checkup in June 2012 that, exact quote: “there is nothing currently wrong with his joints.” When playing with other dogs outdoors (we have four dogs), he is able to run and keep up with the fastest.

This is a startling turnaround in his behavior, and friends and family who know Miles are stunned by his transformation. Only a few months ago was a dog that had to slowly limp to his water bowl is now outside chasing squirrels like a hound, and outrunning his younger peers. If nothing else, your product has given a new lease on an active life for Miles.

Taz

TazTazzy is a 14 year old Pomeranian with the kindest and most expressive disposition out of any of the many dogs we have raised. People say that he should be brought to nursing homes to snuggle and cheer up the residents that have little outside contact with the world. This photo is of Taz just as he was starting to become ill. It’s worth taking a close look at the expression in his eyes.

Taz’s kidneys had started to fail. We found this out after noticing that his behavior had changed from the frisky, bouncy, perpetually-moving, little ball of fur to a depressed and constantly tired shell of the dog he once was. This change happened over a one month time frame. Taz was brought to the vet for blood tests, which then confirmed the beginning of kidney failure. This was a death sentence, which we had sadly seen with a couple of our dogs in the past. The only realistic path forward leads to euthanasia. Usually the dogs with failing kidneys begin to sleep much more than usual, and lose any liveliness they usually have. They appear to be in constant discomfort, and begin to refuse to eat. Taz showed all of these symptoms in the matter of a few weeks, and lost so much weight (almost two pounds off of an eight pound dog!) that his ribs became prominent and were easily felt even under all of that fur. At the rate of this decline, it looked like that final trip to the animal hospital would be upon him within the next month.

With knowledge of the human responses seen with patients that had been treated with Metadichol, Taz was given a daily dose of about 3 mg in solution, sprayed onto his food each morning. On the third day after treatment started, a miracle in the making became apparent. His tail wagged again for the first time in weeks. He ran again for the first time in weeks. After one week of treatment, he began to act hungry once again and his food consumption doubled. Now, after 4 weeks of treatment, he is acting normal once again, is hungry like he should be, and runs and plays with the other 3 dogs, his “cousins,” that live in the same home with him. More blood tests will follow and we will compare the data.

He led the launch of Coenzyme Q-10 as a nutritional supplement in the US during the 1990’s while serving as Director of Kaneka’s pharmaceutical division (the original manufacturer of Q-10). He earned his Ph.D. in organic chemistry from University of Virginia, and was awarded a postdoctoral fellowship in Biochemistry at the Walter Reed Medical Center.
