Human Production of Vitamin C

Human C

I had reported early the finding of Dr. P. R. Raghavan for increased levels of vitamin C in diabetes cases when treated with Metadichol. (Metadichol Induces High Levels of Vitamin C) It appears that the increase was activation of the gene responsible for making the enzyme necessary for the completion of vitamin C production.  This was based on the findings of Dr. Raghavan’s gene studies. This is true in animal studies not yet proved in Humans as the GULO gene is non-functional. Does Metadichol activate the dormant GULO gene in humans despite it being mutated? Studies provided by Skanda Life Sciences shows that Metadichol does activate the gene responsible for the missing enzyme in mouse studies. “Metadichol, Vitamin C, and GULO Gene Expression in Mouse Adipocytes” Link to PDF Metadichol-Vitamin-C-Gulo The loss of production for vitamin C in humans and not in other animals is a mystery.

Vitamin C, also known as ascorbic acid, has shown a remarkable ability to reduce disease. Benefits include the prevention and treatment of scurvy, common cold, boost the immune system, lower hypertension, treatment of lead toxicity, cataracts, treatment of cancer, stroke, elasticity of skin, wound healing, and asthma. Metadichol® has shown it can help maintain high levels of plasma vitamin C without oral supplementation of vitamin C. Metadichol® is a nanoemulsion of policosanol or the waxy substance that is found in high concentration on the sunny parts of plants.

Vitamin C is so important to immune health that without it we would soon die of scurvy. Sailors in past centuries developed the disease because of the lack of fresh vegetables and fruits. The British used limes to provide vitamin C and the Germans used sauerkraut (Thus, the associated nicknames). Recently a physician in Norfolk Virginia found that he could treat septic shock (deadly blood infection) with vitamin C, thiamine, and hydrocortisone. The physician has had only one death after treatment of 150 patients. This shows the significance of how important vitamin C is to the immune system, and may explain how Metadichol works so effectively on so many different diseases.

Metadichol boosts the immune system in many other ways. One of the more important ones is how it affects the action of the vitamin D receptors. The vitamin D receptor acts like a conductor of the orchestra for other nuclear receptors. One very important action of the receptors is the making of antimicrobial peptides that are killer cells for all pathogens. Vitamin C supports many of the functions of neutrophils. Neutrophils (white blood cells), another important immune system function, ultimately converts to various types of killer cells that hunt down pathogens.

Vitamin C also has a role in stem cell production as well as collagen folding. This makes Metadichol very significant in wound healing. Treating and preventing infection and acting in wound repair. It is truly amazing how this one substance can act in so many ways. Collagen is useless without folding of the molecule. Because of the folding of collagen, vitamin C is also very important for building strong bones. Thanks for reading–Mark Pegram

Inhibition of Deadly Viruses by a Food Substance

New research shows that an effective antiviral can be made from a food substance.  Policosanol made into a nanoemulsion has the possibility of becoming a significant tool to inhibit the spread of some very serious viruses that include: Ebola, Dengue Fever, H1N1, and SARS.  Published in the April 2016 edition of the Journal of the Science of Healing Outcomes is the paper, “Inhibition of Dengue and Other Enveloped Viruses by Metadichol®, a Novel Nano Emulsion Lipid,” by P. R. Raghavan, PhD. (dengue-paper – AUTHORS PRE PRINT COPY)

In this paper the author shows case studies of dengue fever recovery of a female 34 and a male 35 in just a few days without any drugs. Also shown in the paper are positive results of in vitro testing for dengue fever as well as many other viruses.  It is the hope that Metadichol® acts toward the other viruses as it has toward dengue fever.  Imagine the less fear that would have been developed during the recent outbreak of Ebola. About 40% of the world’s population is exposed to dengue viral infections with 50 to 100 million infections each year and 22,000 deaths.

Even more important to the average person is the hope that Nano-policosanol is an effective antiviral toward the flu.  Imagine the impact if we could recover very swiftly from the flu with an antiviral that is very effective without side effects.  The very important highlight of policosanol is that it is nontoxic to the human body.  We consume policosanol every day in our foods.  The Nano-emulsion version is easier to absorb and become effective in our immune response. Unfortunately, the part of the plants where policosanol is concentrated is usually thrown away as waste.  Have we lost the avenue toward better immune systems by not chewing the husks from food?

There are over 1,400 pathogens identified to cause disease in humans. There are many more mutating to adjust to an-every changing environment.  How many times in the past year have you heard someone say our use of antibiotics is creating new dangerous bacteria or the vaccine is only 40% effective against this year’s flu?  This is to say nothing to the damage that antibiotics and vaccines may be doing to our microbiota which represents over 100 trillion cells in the human body or ten times human cells.  The use of food with its vitamins, minerals, enzymes, and genetic expressing processes is a natural way of boasting the immune system that has evolved over the ages with our environment.  This may be the answer in our ever persistent battle against pathogens.  We cannot create enough vaccines or anti-pathogen formulas to handle the constant surge of pathogens.

In conversations with the author, Dr. P. R. Raghavan, it was interesting to learn that the finding for the use of Metadichol® against viruses arose out of the use as a supplement. “Chinese and Indians have used herbs and foods to treat illnesses for hundreds of years. My experience in years of developing toxic drugs that do not work, forced me to look for a better alternative. Knowing the importance of vitamin D on human health has ultimately led me to the invention of Policosanol Nanoparticles.” Metadichol® can act along vitamin D pathways and help to restore proper immune health. He continues, “this is not surprising given that policosanol can be considered an open chain form of vitamin D. Policosanol’s main ingredient is Octacosanol which has 28 carbon atoms and vitamin D3 also has 27 Carbon atoms and both are long chain alcohols.”

Potato Skin

Dried Potato Skins

Metadichol has been shown to be effective for many biomarkers (US patents 8,722,093 and 9,006,292) in the nanoemulsion form, and for viruses, bacteria, fungi, and parasites as well. Dr. Raghavan states that he has some very interesting in vitro results for all of these pathogens. He also states that it is very effective in wound healing. “This is not surprising given the fact that dried potato skin was used for skin healing in India. It turns out that potato skin is a good source of the ingredients of Metadichol. In addition, Metadichol also works against Malaria, a parasite, and bacteria like MRSA (see US patent 9,006,292). Recently completed work also has shown that Metadichol inhibits in vitro T-Brucei, a parasite that causes sleeping sickness, T-Cruzi that causes Chagas disease, and Leishmania, a parasite carried by sand flies that leads to Leishmaniosis with symptoms of ulcers of the skin, mouth, nose, etc. All these parasites affect many developed countries in the tropics.  Metadichol® is the only one known in vitro to be active against bacteria, parasites and viruses. This allows researchers for the first time a simple solution that is ready to be tested and deployed world wide to prevent these viruses, bacteria and parasites that affect a large swath of humanity.”

You will have to forgive me, but this reminds me of the explorer movies of the jungle and suddenly there is an illness or injury. The medicine man chews up some leaves and spits it into a poultice.  The person with the illness is healed in just a day or so.  Great stuff for the movies, but there must have been some basis for the fiction. Maybe we have arrived at a time when nutraceuticals are more effective that drugs.

Why Suffer Vitamin D Deficiency?

During a recent interview Dr. John Cannell of the Vitamin D Council kept making the same point over and over.  Here is the approximately one hour audio interview on vitamin D in health and disease.  You may also find the link to this interview on the home page of the Vitamin D Council.

The point:  Why suffer vitamin D deficiency in particular if you have any form of disease when it is perfectly safe to have the serum level of a sunny country?

Now the serum level for vitamin D in a sunny country is 54 ng/ml to 90 ng/ml per Grant and Holick.  To achieve this level takes a different amount of sun exposure and supplementation for everyone as each person’s rate of use of vitamin D is different.  There is no need to wait for some study to come out and say with certainty that vitamin D will treat or prevent this disease or that disease when it is safe at an extremely beneficial level.

Scientist will take many years to make treatment studies show the benefits of vitamin D for a multiple of reasons.  No one wants to fund the studies when there is no profit to be made and government funding for treatment studies can be extremely slow.  However, through anecdotal experiences that are communicated this paradigm shift can move very quickly.

Do not die vitamin D deficient! – Pandemic Survivor

Hepatitis C Cured?

And another virus bites the dust.  Hepatitis C is a serious virus that infects the liver and can cause scarring, cirrhosis, and even cancer of the liver.  It is a serious disease with only about a 50% cure rate.  Liver failures that result in a liver transplant will typically still have the disease.

Before I jump right into the news story let’s consider an old salty warrior that I know that spent 25 years in the military.  He had multiple tours in Vietnam and spent his career in locations all over the world.  He has suffered many diseases including tuberculosis that in combination of the drugs that were used to cure the TB had a serious negative impact on his liver and his lung capacity.  After being on vitamin D3 at about 6000 IU per day for two years his liver markers are now completely normal.  His lung capacity has also returned to normal.  So what are we to make of this?  I know that my own liver markers were way out of normal and returned to normal after the first year on vitamin D.

Evidently vitamin D is really good for your liver!

This story was reported in Empowher which is a women’s health online site.  In the test that was discuss patients were given vitamin D in a test that was to show the difference in interferon treatments.  At the 12th week of treatment the vitamin D group was 96% HCV RNA negative as compared to the control group which was 48% HCV RNA negative.  “Vitamin D Boost Treatment of Chronic Hepatitis C”

This is really good news for people that are suffering from liver disease as it may be that vitamin D has a significant impact on recovery of the liver both from disease and abuse by drugs and alcohol.  Who knows maybe it could even help those people that have taken too much acetaminophen.  In any case there is no reason for people to die that are not vitamin D replete.  Why take the chance of not taking vitamin D when the benefits could be so great and there is no down side.

Here is the research from the Vitamin D Council on liver function and vitamin D. Also on liver cancer.

H1N1 and Vitamin D

H1N1 and Vitamin D

It seems to be medical fact that we get more cases of the flu in the winter than in the summer.  I have never had the flu in the summer or personally know anyone that has had the flu in the summer.  However, everyone that I know has had the flu in the winter.  It only seems logical that there is a seasonal occurrence that is driving this real phenomenon.

Dr. John Cannell of the Vitamin D Council has designated a complete newsletter to the understanding back May, 2009, H1N1 Flu and Vitamin D.  I referred to this newsletter in my first article on the flu and vitamin D, Another Pandemic, H1N1, Protect Yourself. Now Dr. Cannell gives us an update about children in his September 2009 Newsletter and how it is that children that are deficient with vitamin D are most likely at risk of getting the flu.  Vitamin D Studies of Interest

I am totally with Dr.  Cannell.  How can we simply just stand by and watch children suffer from this disease when we know that more than fifty to seventy percent of children are deficient depending  on which study you chose to read.  If you have children, be sure to keep them replete in vitamin D by following Dr. Cannell directions in this October 2008 newsletter Vitamin D in Pediatrics. Under vitamin D and dosage he states that in general that children need about 1000 IU of D3 for every 25 lbs of body weight per day.  I found this amount to be effective in adults as well.  I weigh 235 lbs and take 10,000 IU each day that I do not go into the sun and every day between the end of September and the end of March when we are in ‘vitamin D winter’.

So what are our country and the health organizations doing about this vitamin D deficiency and the relation to the flu?  Not much!  There is hope however as the Public Health Agency of Canada has decided to take the vitamin D level of people having the H1N1 virus.  This is really encouraging as Canada takes its lead for supplementations levels from the Institute of Medicine, IOM, here in the US.  If Canada confirms this finding that low levels of vitamin D are significant in relation to the flu then maybe the US will take action.  But here again, I am with Dr. Cannell, how many children have to die before we stop depending on just acquired immunity through flu shots and build our innate immunity through doing what is natural to us.  We must remember that the US is slow to act as the Canadian Cancer Institute requested all Canadians take a minimum of 1000 IU of D3 per day and the US did not follow.

You may read the story on the website of the Vitamin D Society of Canada:  http://www.vitamindsociety.org/

Story from the Globe and Mail.  http://www.vitamindsociety.org/news_article.php?id=26

The story broke here in the US by Nutraingrediants-usa.com and emaxhealth.com:  http://www.nutraingredients-usa.com/Research/Canada-examines-vitamin-D-for-swine-flu-protection

http://www.emaxhealth.com/1275/83/33165/vitamin-d-might-protect-against-h1n1-flu.html

And then there is this article in how the US should follow Canada’s lead from the Health Sciences Institute in Baltimore:  http://hsibaltimore.com/2009/08/24/h1n1-prevention/

You know the thing that is most interesting is one of the references that is driving the Canadian study is a report from 1946 that shows evidence that persons with low vitamin D levels were more likely to have the flu.  Why have we waited so long to investigate!!??

On the heels of this comes the study from Oregon State University that states that primates have kept the vitamin D innate immunity system in place for 60 million years!  Here is the story, “Key feature of immune system survived in humans, other primates for 60 million years”, from Eurek Alert.  http://www.eurekalert.org/pub_releases/2009-08/osu-kfo081809.php

Now what pops into my mind as I read this is Linus Pauling’s writings on vitamin C.  It was very clear that only primates and guinea pigs do not make their own vitamin C.  So why is it that the vitamin D immune system has survived in primates and not other mammals?  Maybe this is the system that has taken the place of the vitamin C system in primates.  So what do we do about it?  We tell people for the last fifty years to get out of the sun!!!!  I know that this may be somewhat of a leap, but I do not think it is much of one considering the research on vitamin D immunity.

You should read again this paragraph about vitamin D immunity from my post, A Tale of Two Women:  “Vitamin D3, it seems works, along several pathways to help heal disease.  Number one it helps at a genetic level to tell immature tumor cells that they are just that and to stop growing or cellular apoptosis. The D3 also helps the blood supply network that is feeding the tumor to stop growing from a genetic level because this is not the normal design of the body or angiogenesis.  Also it raises the level of innate immunity so the body develops appropriate defensins such as cathelicidin antimicrobial peptides, phagocytes, and neutrofil granulocites that help destroy and adsorb ‘bad cells’ and ‘foreign bodies’ in the blood system.  There is also an aid to T-cell regulation in this complex system of immunity.  And if you are taking chemo one of the problems is thrombosis and vitamin D3 helps to control this issue as well.”  What this paragraph says is that vitamin D raises the innate immune system to fight all pathogens including viruses.  This reminds me that I need to do a post on the immune system and vitamin D.  There is really some fascinating research out there – coming soon.

So maybe the true magic in healing comes from a balance of giving the body what it needs.  I believe that Dr. Cannell and Dr. Pauling are both correct and that in primates that vitamin D is a greater fighter of viruses than vitamin C.  This may be just the opposite for non-primate mammals where vitamin C immune system is more important than the vitamin D system. Non-primates make their own vitamin C and primates and guinea pigs do not make vitamin C.  This article from WebMD seems to support my understanding:  http://www.webmd.com/cold-and-flu/news/20090223/low-vitamin-d-levels-linked-to-colds You know Dr. Pauling was reported to have taken between 12 grams to 20 grams of vitamin C per day.  His contention was that the less colds and other infections that you have the longer you live.  He lived to be 93.  Imagine how long he may have lived if he had taken 5 to 10 thousand IU’s of D3 as well.  What a headache that we may cause for government to solve in a population of healthy ‘really’ old people!!!  I am sure that as soon as the government makes a proclamation to take more vitamin D that the retirement age will be raised at least 10 years.

Anyway, what should we do for ourselves and our children.  Be sure that they get enough of vitamin C and vitamin D this winter and I suspect if you do this we will have many happy endings.

Go into the sun this winter through supplementation!!!!!!!!!!!   Pandemic Survivor
